Job Title:        Community and Equity Organizer
Reports to:        Executive Director

Summary   
The scope of work of this position includes support of block clubs, community organizations, members, residents and stakeholders of the Tremont West Development Corporation.  The position addresses community organizing activities as well as quality of life concerns and ensuring equitable outcomes for neighborhood development.  Additionally, the position entails assisting in setting best practices and policies for work with the community and development of new and innovative programming to positively impact the residents and stakeholders of the community.

Objectives
Objectives for this position include communication, assistance and attendance at block clubs, assisting in review of efficacy of organizing work through an equity lens, increasing capacity of volunteer efforts, strengthening working relationships with city departments including Community Relations, and increasing the general quality of life for residents in Tremont.
FT, 40 hrs, Mon – Fri. Cleveland, OH

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Staff, assist and provide resources for assigned block clubs and special interest groups including increasing participation levels
  • Organize to ensure a wide range and diversity of opinion is included in dialogue at the block club and organizational level
  • Attend, participate and apply learning to organizing work from Cleveland Neighborhood Progress Racial Equity Institute
  • Assist in evaluation of programs through an equity lens including development, healthy food access, affordable housing and school choice
  • Serve as liaison for Healthy Cleveland initiatives and program manager for special related initiatives in Tremont (Healthy Corner Stores Initiative, greenspace coordination, gardens, Friends of Clark Field, Towpath Integration Plan etc.)
  • Serve as liaison and organizer for Friends of Tremont School
  • Organize volunteer-driven clean up activities and supervise Court Community Service teams
  • Identify and pursue supplementary resources to complete projects including donations and pursuing relevant grant opportunities
  • Periodic reporting to neighborhood block clubs and other community groups including monthly updates within the Inside Tremont monthly newsletter
  • Seek innovative solutions and new organizing models to address vexing problems in the neighborhood including use of technology
  • Seek best practices for implementation at the block club level
  • Coordinate initiatives designed to promote the organization and its services to the community
  • Assist with the management, oversight and dispersal of fiscal agent accounts
  • Develop relationships with key community leaders
  • Organize and coordinate doorknocking and direct outreach campaigns for organization with Community Involvement Manager
  • Continue quality of life assessments within community


Other Duties
  •  Assist in festivals, special events and other organization initiatives
  • Complete all necessary reports
  • Other Duties as Assigned

Qualifications
The position demands a highly-skilled community development professional with prior experience in non-profit community development, governmental agency, or similar with client/customer and/or general public skills.  Computer proficiency in outlook (email and calendar), spreadsheet and word processing mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications
Bi-lingual – English and Spanish

Preferred Education and/or experience
BA with two years’ experience
